The love a mother has for her child served as the driving force to navigate through the systematic challenges within the legal and criminal system for black and brown individuals. This maternal perspective deepened as she planned an approach to address gaps in juvenile justice reform and restorative justice practices. She believed that this work would leave a meaningful impact on her life and the reentry population.
The organization's name was adopted by a youth (at the age of 15) who faced adult charges in Maryland. While confined behind the prison walls in solitary confinement, known as "23/1 lock up," this youth channeled his artistry to envision his future upon release.
The tenacious spirit of this mother sparked a purposeful idea: to contribute rather than succumb to the systemic challenges. She designed a robust reentry model involving direct programming, led by a comprehensive response to assist in the transition of individuals released from prison, jail, or juvenile residential facilities. This encompasses all aspects of public safety, health, and the overall need for transitional change.
