NSNS leadership, Board of Directors and our team members deeply care about the participants we serve. Our workflow has demonstrated the effectiveness of 220+ juvenile offenders and returning citizens whose utilize personalized reentry services after incarceration. Our reputable program has provided successful results of reducing recidivism, guiding self-sufficiency and improving safety outcomes across the state of Maryland.
The love a mother has for her child was the driving force to fight through the systematic poison within the legal and criminal system for black and brown individuals. This mother perspective grew deeper with planning the approach that would fill the gaps in juvenile justice reform and restorative justice practices. She believed that this work would lead to her son's release and make an impactful mark on the reentry population.
The organization name was adopted from a youth (at the age of 15) who was charged as an adult in Maryland. While he was confined behind the prison walls of solitary confinement housing "23/1 lock up", this youth tapped into his artistry by drawing out his future on what life could look like upon release. This gave hope to a mother and child, while it created a tenacious spirit within his mother to design a robust reentry program that will vindicate that there is “no excuse” to return to prison.
The process of leaving prison can be very difficult, especially for the returning citizens who have had to serve lengthy sentences. Providing a reentry plan of structure routine specific assigned services is vital to the success and wellbeing of those granted released. It is particularly important for individuals who have served very long sentences, and have been institutionalized for most, if not all, of their adult life. Prior to COVID-19, each year about 4,000 people were released from Maryland state prisons and returned to communities across Maryland.
The primary focal point of No Struggle No Success, Inc (NSNS) Reentry Program is to create and implement a roadmap to give returning citizens the tools needed to not only survive, but to be successful and live a fulfilling life. With a focus specifically on individuals who have served many years in prison seeking review of a lengthy sentence imposed as a child or are eligible for parole of a life sentence, this project will take No Struggle No Success, Inc, ’s innovative and collaborative response to recidivism and violence reduction in Baltimore.
