No Struggle No Success Inc. (NSNS) has served the youth and adults of Baltimore City since 2018. This robust program is designed to demonstrate that there's “no excuse” to return to prison. The organization name was adopted from a juvenile (at the age of 15) who was charged as an adult in Maryland.
NSNS supports motivated individuals who are incarcerated or recently released from prisons and detention centers. NSNS ensures the youth, adults and their families have culturally appropriate wrap-around services including programs that connect youth to traditional practices of community building and healing and also that they have support to navigate through the justice system.
NSNS promotes community-oriented and problem-oriented policing to improve community safety and school and community-based restorative and transformative justice approaches focused on healing as an alternative to the court system. Our community partnership promotes togetherness, and inter-agency collaboration helps reentry community have more opportunities. NSNS demonstrate ways to reduce recidivism, build impactful relationships, decrease mass incarceration, advocate for law modifications, and remove the obstacles in the reentry transition for adult offenders and intervention services for youth offenders.
The process of leaving prison can be very difficult, especially for the returning citizens who have had to serve lengthy sentences. Providing a reentry plan of structure routine specific assigned services is vital to the success and wellbeing of those granted released. It is particularly important for individuals who have served very long sentences, and have been institutionalized for most, if not all, of their adult life. Prior to COVID-19, each year about 4,000 people were released from Maryland state prisons and returned to communities across Maryland.
The primary focal point of No Struggle No Success, Inc (NSNS) Reentry Program is to create and implement a roadmap to give returning citizens the tools needed to not only survive, but to be successful and live a fulfilling life. With a focus specifically on individuals who have served many years in prison seeking review of a lengthy sentence imposed as a child or are eligible for parole of a life sentence, this project will take No Struggle No Success, Inc, ’s innovative and collaborative response to recidivism and violence reduction in Baltimore.
Effective September 15, 2022, any individual with sex offense charge(s) will NOT be accepted into the program.
